I don’t know about you but under the kitchen sink is a space that I tend to not think about. I did not really care about this part of my kitchen until we renovated our kitchen. Id say its because in our old kitchen under the sink was super dark and one of the doors did not open properly so I never bothered to store much under the sink.
Now that my kitchen is new and bright I realised that I have all this space to use! The below tips and tricks will hopefully give you some inspiration to take a look under your kitchen sink and organize it.
How to Organize Under Your Kitchen Sink
1. Clean Out & Throw Away
Like with any organisation of a space its best to clean everything out and throw away what is out of date, old or anything you no longer use. I could not tell you how many gross used clothes were under my kitchen sink (thanks Sam). I also like to make note of products that are almost empty and remember to stock up on these items but also to keep space free for the extra bottles.
2. Measure The Space
Under the kitchen sink can be a difficult one to go shopping for if you do not measure the space before hand. Take note of each side of the sink and also remember you have the option to hang items from. If you are going to hang items from inside the door make sure it does not hit the sink and that the door will close properly.
3.Group Products Together
When it comes to grouping products together I look at this is 2 diffenent ways. The first os that you can group your products together but used often and products used every now and then. The other grouping option is by product types (group floor products together, group glass cleaning products together, group all purpose cleaners together – you get the idea here) In our house we use a mix of these 2 options. The products I use most often I keep in easy reach and the products that I do not use as much I store away but organise by product type.
4. Get Creative
You are probably thinking what? When we renovated our kitchen we decided to get an under the sink bin. It wasn’t until after the renovation was complete we found the installed bins were going to be way too small than what we were used too so I got creative and now use those bins as storage! Sometimes you just have to work with what you have and some item around your house maybe perfect to help with organising under the kitchen sink. Its so much cheaper to repurpose something your already have then buy more organization products because they can get expensive. If you do need (or want) to buy storage containers there are so many places you can get clear bin from for a reasonable price.
