Self care at Home for Mind Body & Soul

The Hayley Daily

These days we find ourselves so busy that we often forget to slow down and take a moment to give ourselves to TLC. I know at times I don’t want to make a booking for a massage or facial and would much rather give myself some self-care at home. One, it’s easier and second, it can be free! Below is a list of 7 at home self-care tips to give you the break that you deserve.

This post is about at home self-care

1. Take a Bath

Grab a bath bomb or some Epsom salts or the kid’s bath bubbles. Lock the door put on some soothing music (or your favorite tunes) and light some candles and just breathe. If you don’t have a bath make yourself a foot bath. You can do this in two different ways.
1. You can fill the sink with some warm water and some Epsom salts. Jump up onto the bench and place your feet in the water and place your head on your knees. I know this seems weird but I love doing this and I find that it helps when I have stress headaches.
2. This way is almost the same as option 1 however instead of using the kitchen sink grab a large tub and use a chair to sit on.

2. Face Mask

There is nothing like a face mask at home. This is one of my favorite self-care tips. You can make your mask there are so many recipes on the internet that you can use. I love using clay face masks. I get my pink clay powder from an Australian company called Lust Minerals. If you want to get super extra (which why not if we are pampering ourselves at home) is gold face masks. You can get these as jelly-like sheets or you can get it in a jar and paint yourself. I am a personal fan of the gold skincare products from James Cosmetics.

3. Reading

Find a quiet spot whether this is outside, a comfortable chair in your home, or your bed and grab a book (or magazine if that’s what you prefer). Reading is one self-care activity that I enjoy. I am prone to grabbing a book that is of the self-development genre however there are so many book choices out there. If I am not reading a self-development book I will reach for a naughty romance novel because hey this is my time 🙂

4. Movie Time

I don’t know about you but I have a bucket list of movies that I am dying to watch but most of the movies I watch are action or cartoons. If you can an hour or two to yourself watch a movie that you have been longing to watch that you may have not been able to cause the rest of the family always gets to pick. You might be willing to share your self-care time with your soul mate so why not make a date out of it. My man and I one Saturday night built a pillow fort in the lounge room, made some s’mores in the oven, and put on a rom-com.

5. Meditate and Journal

Take some time with your thoughts and feelings. This self-care tip I have been trying to incorporate into my day-to-day life. We can get so caught up with busy work schedules, children, housework, partners that we don’t take time to self-reflect. It is easy to take care of the outside of our bodies but we also can’t forget about our insides. This tip is one that you can do even if you only have 15mins.

6. Dance Party

Get moving girl! Put on your song and dance it out in the lounge room or your bedroom. I have to thank Grey’s Anatomy for this tip. When I have at-home dance parties I put on my earphones crank the volume (probably not good for my hearing) and bust out all my amazing dance moves. I am sure I look like a crazy lady but hey I am having a blast.

7. Backyard Wine and Cheese Picnic

Creating charcuterie boards feeds my soul. When I have guests come over it is my go-to. It is also my go-to when I want to treat myself. I get the cheese I like, some fancy crackers, some dip, and create myself a mini charcuterie plate. I splurge a little and buy myself a nice red wine and head to the back patio and watch the afternoon sun go down.

Self-care doesn’t need to be expensive, it can be at home, super simple, and cheap. I hope you love these 7 at-home self-care tips as we do and that they help care for your mind, body, and soul.
